The Five Ways

I am often asked if I have been influenced by the Five Ways to Well-being since we developed them.  Well I am sure I have been!

Connect

I do remember more often to Connect with my parents and sisters and try to keep up with people I love but don’t see so often – I have always been good at connecting with whoever is in front of me but I am trying to be a bit more intentional about connecting now.

Be Active

Never my strongest point! But I am swimming more.  I decided that swimming felt the least like exercise to the major cardiovascular activities, I always enjoyed swimming. I actually don’t find it helpful to count lengths as then it becomes too much of a task but sometimes I time myself to do groups of four lengths (in under two minutes!)

Take Notice

I actually use my swimming for internal reflection time and I do try to get outside more when the weather is good. I dare to remark more to other people on beautiful landscapes and objects. I am not good at sitting still and meditating though – even though I think I should be!

Keep Learning

I am quite curiosity led anyway but I am pretty useless at retaining information.  This has the advantage, as a friend recently pointed out, that I am quite empty!  I am very keen on learning more about systems theory at the moment – well more systems intelligence – how can we consciously and intelligently interact with systems.

Give

Mmm…  I think I am quite a generous person and I certainly give of myself with my work – I am very passionate about what we do.  For sure I think that ‘giving’ is an excellent way to re-connect, even if it just asking a friend out to a meal or to the cinema.
